Healthy Ageing: Investigating the determinants

Healthy Ageing: Investigating the determinants. The experience for EU funded project ATHLOS

Primary Health Care Conference “Dr George PAPADAKIS”

February 2017, Athens, Greece

We had the opportunity to present some preliminary results of the ATHLOS project to a broad public of Family Physicians, Internists and other Health Care Professionals, from all around Greece, during one of the most prominent congresses in the field of Primary Healthcare with over 2500 participants.

The outline of the presentation concerned a brief introduction to the ageing process and the healthy ageing concept. After the introduction to the basics of healthy ageing, the ATHLOS project was presented. We demonstrated the preliminary results of the work performed so far, that confirms the feasibility and applicability of the concept of a single health metric based on functionality measurements and not solely on health condition accumulation, that can be used to compare health status across different populations and over time. This concept was further explained in details during the discussion with the participants and it should be noted that both the results, as well as the conceptual background of the analysis were very positively accepted by the attendants.

Chairman: Demosthenes Panagiotakos, Prof. Harokopio University of Athens, ATHLOS partner, WP2 Leader.
