PhD thesis summary
PhD title: Trajectories of functioning and mental health: associated determinants in general population
- José Luis Ayuso-Mateos, MD, PhD. Professor of Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Services Research and Training.

Worldwide life expectancy has increased steadily over the last five decades, with an expected increment of people aged 60 years or above from 11.2% in 2011 up to a 22% in 2050. However, whether this increase on the life span is accompanied by a better health status is still a debate. My PhD thesis aims at identifying groups of different populations with varying patterns of health trajectories and their determinants. As part of my PhD, a first article assessing determinants of health trajectories in England and the United States has already been published (https://doi.org/10.1093/gerona/gly006).
